Advisory Board
The Just Apparel Advisory Board exists
to help us fill the gaps in our expertise. Its members are experts
in the fields of development, fair trade, anthropology, political science,
Guatemalan history and culture, and financial record keeping.
David Bronkema, International Development and Cultural Understanding
David Bronkema will advise Just Apparel
in a wide variety of areas related to his experience in the fields of
International Development and Anthropology, including project management,
fundraising, Just Apparel's place in the big picture of development,
and cultural awareness and mutual understanding. David is an Associate
Professor of International Development and the Director of International
Development Programs at Eastern University in St. Davids, PA.
He also serves as the Templeton Chair for Christian Service through
Entrepreneurship. Before joining the faculty at Eastern, David
worked for eight years as the Program Coordinator for the Latin America
and Caribbean Region for the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC).
His previous professional experience includes project management work
in such diverse subfields of international development as environmental
policy enforcement in Latin America, professional training for development
practitioners in El Salvador, and judicial institution building in post-conflict
Guatemala.
David holds a B.A. in Political Science
from Swarthmore College, as well as an M.A. in International Relations
and a Ph.D. in Sociocultural Anthropology from Yale University.
His research has explored the intersection between religion and development,
focusing especially on faith-based non-governmental organizations (NGOs);
the conscious attempt to politicize the development endeavor; the constraints
involved in applying social science knowledge to practical endeavors
of social change; the use of NGOs as proxies for political battles in
the international arena; and theories of practice and change within
development NGOs, including the ongoing attempt to professionalize them.
Anita Isaacs, Guatemalan History and Culture
Anita Isaacs will provide advice
and guidance regarding Guatemalan culture and history, as well as making
periodic oversight visits to Santiago. Professor Isaacs is the
Benjamin R. Collins Professor of Social Science and Chair of the Political
Science Department at Haverford College, where she has worked since
1988. Before coming to Haverford, she worked as a program officer
for the Ford Foundation funding initiatives relating to international
affairs, governance and human rights in Latin America and the Caribbean.
She earned her B.A. in political science at McGill University, and her
D.Phil in politics at the University of Oxford. Anita's teaching and
research interests include Latin American politics, US-Latin American
relations, and the domestic and global challenges of democratization
and peace building.
Anita's research has focused on both
Ecuadorian and Guatemalan politics. She has published a book and several
articles on the politics of military rule, transition and democratic
consolidation in Ecuador. For the past several years she has been researching
and writing about the challenges of peace building in Guatemala. Her
work is particularly concerned with the topic of transitional justice,
and the problematic relationship between the search for truth about
Guatemala's wartime past, reconciliation and democracy. She is
currently finishing a book on the subject.
Paul McAnnally-Linz,Business and Accounting
Paul McAnnally-Linz will provide
general organizational guidance and assist with the establishment of
the financial control systems for Just Apparel. After earning
his B.S. in Accounting from Cal-State LA in 1979, Paul worked for a
two years as a corporate accountant for a division of Gulf & Western
before returning to school at Auburn University to complete his MBA
in 1983. Upon completion of his MBA, Paul joined Xerox Corporation
where he has served in a wide variety of management assignments in Finance,
Strategy & Planning, Sales, Marketing, Engineering and Product Introduction
over a 24-year career, earning a greenbelt in Lean Six Sigma process
management techniques along the way. He is currently the Manger
of Worldwide Channel Operations and Solution Roll-out for Xerox Special
Information Systems.
Donna Sider, The Fair Trade Market
Donna Sider will provide Just Apparel with information and perspectives from within the established fair trade market in the US. She is the education co-chair of the local board of Ten Thousand Villages in Pasadena, CA. She holds a BS in Nursing from Azusa Pacific University and has worked as an RN at Huntington Hospital and as Research Coordinator for NeuroTherapeutics, Inc., both in Pasadena. Donna also served for four years as chair of Peace and Justice for Pasadena Covenant Church.
